LEIPSNER GETS HIS EVP STRIPES

Columbia Promo Domo Will Now Have to Redo His Business Cards
Longtime Sony Music exec Lee Leipsner is still levitating after ascending to Executive Vice President of Promotion for Columbia. In his expanded role, Leipsner will continue to oversee all promotion activities and will remain in charge of washing EVP/GM Joel Klaiman’s golf clubs. Klaiman, who did the honors, crafted a quote for the occasion.

"This advancement is well deserved," Klaiman said. "Lee is the consummate head of promotion. A true leader with extensive relationships at radio, he’s great with artists and is willing to travel anywhere for the good of Columbia’s artists. Please join me in congratulating Lee on this promotion."

Congratulations, Lee.

"I would like to give my sincere thanks to Rob Stringer, Ashley Newton and Joel Klaiman for this tremendous opportunity and for their continued belief and support," Leipsner offered, getting the pecking order exactly right. "As I approach my 20-year mark at Sony Music, I’ve never felt better about our incredible team and the amazing roster of artists that make up Columbia Records. It is truly an honor to work for such a historical label. I look forward to the future and in growing our legacy as we continue working closely with radio to develop new artists and further solidify our heritage acts."

Previously SVP of Promotion at the label, Leipsner has played an instrumental role in spearheading breaking new acts One Direction, Calvin Harris, Olly Murs, J. Cole, Foster the People, Krewella and Passion Pit. Leipsner was recently named the Major Label Promotion Executive of the year at the 2013 Worldwide Radio Summit Industry Awards.

Leipsner began his career at Mercury in 1989 as a regional promo rep for the Mid-Atlantic region, based in DC, segueing to Columbia in the same post four years later. He moved to the label’s New York offices in ’94 to do national Top 40 promotion, rising to Director and Senior SVP Pop/Adult Top 40 Promotion before leaving the label in 2003 to work for Duran Duran. Leipsner returned to Sony Music in 2004 as VP Pop/Adult Top 40 Promotion for Epic, running the department with Jacqueline Saturn throughout ’05. He rejoined Columbia as SVP Pop Promotion in October 2006.
