BMG has announced the promotion of Zach Katz to the post of Chief Creative Officer at BMG Chrysalis North America. Katz, previously EVP Creative, will continue to report to President of Marketing & Creative Laurent Hubert and oversee the company’s creative staff in Los Angeles and New York.
Katz, who began his career as a music attorney, joined BMG in 2012 and is credited with shaping the firm’s creative team. Key signings during his tenure have included Claude Kelly, Greg Wells, The Strokes, Juicy J, Monsters & Strangers, Bebe Rexha and Howard Benson.
“It’s with great pride and gratitude that I embark on my next chapter with BMG,” reads an approved quote from Katz. “Our team has the vision and expertise to help our songwriters and artists reach their highest potential and shape our industry going forward. This company has some of the most dedicated and results-driven people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Oh, and I’ll have two more albacore rolls, the fresh-water eel special and the baby abalone.”
Added Hubert, “Zach has contributed significantly to the growth of BMG Chrysalis U.S. and has helped cement our reputation as the preferred home for top talent. Also, he has kept me up to date on the latest American slang expressions, such as ‘Where’s the beef?’ and ‘Don’t go there, girlfriend.’”
Before arriving at BMG, Katz was the co-founder (with JR Rotem) of the Beluga Heights label. He also worked with Aftermath Entertainment and served as GM of European distributor Groove Attack USA.
BMG execs Richard Blackstone, David Hirshland and Kos Weaver will continue to report to Hubert.
