THIS FORECAST CALLS FOR SUNSHINE

Warner Bros. Nashville’s Blake Shelton lassoes the #1 spot on this week’s HITS Building Album Sales Chart with 102k for his ninth full-length, Bringing Back the Sunshine.

The Voice coach’s last release, 2013’s Based on a True Story, debuted at #3 with 199k out of the box and 1.3m overall.

Speaking of country, Capitol Nashville’s Lady Antebellum debuts at #2 with 73k for 747.

Meanwhile, Barbra Streisand gives Lady A a run for their money, staying strong at #3 with 72k for Partners (Columbia) in her third week (-44%). Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga’s set of standards, which debuted at #1 last week, slid to #4, snagging another 55k (-58%) for Columbia/Interscope.

The artist currently known as Prince, formerly known as the artist formerly known as Prince, sees two debuts in the Top 10 this week. His funk-heavy solo release, Art Official Age, bowed at #5 with 43k, while the rockier Plectrumelectrum, a result of his side project with distaff band 3rdeyegirl, bowed at #10 with 21.5k. Both albums were released through NPG/Warner Bros.

Also debuting this week: Columbia’s The Script, entering at #8 with 24k, Island’s Tove Lo, who lands the #13 spot with 20k, and, rounding out the Top 15, Republic’s Colbie Caillat with 17k.

Blue Chair/Columbia Nashville’s Kenny Chesney raked in another 40k in his second week (#6, -69%). RCA’s Chris Brown slides to #9, earning 22k (-37%)

222/Interscope’s Maroon 5 sees a 33% sales bump after a well-received SNL appearance, moving them #9-7 with 34k. Meanwhile, Capitol’s Sam Smith sees a 12% sales bump, moving him #17-11 with a little over 21k.

It’s also worth noting that Childish Gambino’s brand new EP, Kauai (Glassnote), which seemed to materialize out of nowhere in the #1 spot at iTunes, landed at #17 with 16k after a quickly executed digital release.
