JOYOUS SABBATH!

Ozzy and Crew Deliver #1, 141k Bow, Big Time Rush Bows Top 5, Man of Steel, Lonely Island, Goos Debut

13 proves a lucky number indeed for Republic’s reunited metal masters Black Sabbath, who power to #1 on our sales chart this week with a diabolically impressive 141k debut.

It’s further evidence of a rock resurgence, which was goosed by a flurry of guitar-heavy downloads around Father’s Day.

Columbia’s Daft Punk added 48k to the impressive tally for Random Access Memories, which perches at #2 (with 545k to date), just ahead of another dance party with stamina, Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience (RCA), which moved another 35k, a 31% boost; JT is now within shouting distance of 2 million total.

Nickelodeon/Columbia heartthrobs Big Time Rush bowed at #4 with 35k, followed by Big Machine/Republic’s surging country-pop hunks Florida Georgia Line, who moved 33k (up 20%).

The Top Ten features two other debuts, Watertower’s Man of Steel soundtrack (featuring Super-score by Hans Zimmer) at #6 with 32k, and Warner Bros.’ pop-rock vets Goo Goo Dolls, whose Magnetic attracted 29k to bow at #9. The Goos’ 2010 release, Something for the Rest of Us, by comparison, moved 34k in its first week.

Chart repeaters round out the upper echelon: Capitol Nashville’s Darius Rucker (#7, 31k), Warner Bros. Nashville’s Blake Shelton (#8, 30k) and Interscope’s Imagine Dragons, who occupy the #10 spot at 27k, a drop of just 1% from the prior week.

Just slightly farther down the chart, we find a trio of debuts tucked into the Top 15: Republic’s SNL breakouts Lonely Island (#12, 26k), Motown’s Chrisette Michele (#13, 24k) and RCA’s Jimmy Eat World (#14, 24k).

The Top 20’s only other debut is UMe’s Now Country 6, which lassos up 22k for a #16 finish.

Hitting this week, it’s Kanye West’s trending topic Yeezus (Def Jam/IDJ) and another impressive hip-hop set, J. Cole’s Born Sinner (Roc Nation/Columbia). Other upcoming bows include alt-rapper Mac Miller (Rostrum/INgrooves), Motown’s Kelly Rowland, XL’s Sigur Ros and Epitaph’s indie rockers Falling in Reverse.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we have to send the intern over to the medical-marijuana dispensary. Hey, he’s learning an important skill.
