All hail Virgin’s Bastille, whose “Pompeii” will be the new #1 song at the format on Monday. Virgin will also see Thirty Seconds to Mars debut in the Top 10 with “City Of Angels.”

FRIDAY CHART PREVIEW

What to Expect on Three Key Mediabase Charts Next Week, Straight From Our Crystal Balls

It’s time once again to gaze into the future and let you know what to expect on three key Mediabase charts next week. Look for transitions in upper regions of the Top 40 and Alternative charts, as Lorde, Avicii and Bastille advance, while Miley and Justin make gains at multiple formats, Thirty Seconds to Mars goes Top 10 at Alt and new singles by Emeli Sande, Enrique and The Neighbourhood make chart debuts.

TOP 40
The gap is closing, but for this week Capitol’s Katy Perry will hold on to #1 with her monster “Roar.” Nipping at her heels is teen kiwi sensation Lorde (Lava/Republic), whose multi-format smash, “Royals,” is up another 1500x and should climb to #2 on Monday. But another contender for #1 status, PRMD/Island/IDJ’s Avicii, is also having a fine week and could finish at #2 on Monday--putting itself into contention next week for a shot at the top. RCA’s Miley Cyrus continues to climb with her mega-hit “Wrecking Ball,” which will move to #7. Her labelmate Justin Timberlake’s latest hit, “TKO,” will make an impressive 22-17 move. Capitol’s Emeli Sande will have a strong #36 debut with “My Kind Of Love.” Also set to enter the chart: Republic’s Enrique Iglesias with “Heart Attack.”

RHYTHMIC
Big Sean
’s “Beware” (G.O.O.D./Def Jam/IDJ) and Chris Brown’s “Love More” (RCA) are the only records in the Top 5 with a bullet. Lorde’s “Royals” (Lava/Republic) and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “White Walls” (Macklemore) continue to see huge gains. Justin Timberlake’s “T.K.O” (RCA) has a huge jump on the chart. Jay Z’s “Tom Ford” (Roc-a-Fella/Roc Nation) and Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” (RCA) will also gain some serious ground.

ALTERNATIVE
All hail Virgin’s Bastille, whose “Pompeii” will be the new #1 song at the format on Monday. Virgin will also see Thirty Seconds to Mars debut in the Top 10 with “City Of Angels.” RCA’s Cage the Elephant will go Top 5 with “Come A Little Closer.” Columbia’s MS MR is now on the threshold of theTop 10 with “Hurricane.” Linkin Park (Warner Bros.) is having an excellent week with “A Light That Never Comes,” which looks to have a lengthy Top 10 run. Lorde’s follow-up track, “Team” (Lava/Republic), seems destined for big things; it’ll make a solid 28-22 move. The Neighbourhood (Columbia) will enter the Top 20 with their follow-up single, “Afraid.”

Also possibly happening next week: A default on U.S. debt obligations, precipitating a global economic cataclysm. Yay!
