Modular/Interscope's Aussie psych-rockers Tame Impala, who earned a Best Alternative Album Grammy nomination for Lonerism (over150k sold) and whose "Elephant" stampeded through PoMo last year, return with "Seems Like We Only Go Backwards." The song's getting mad early love at Modern Rock radio and has already garnered nearly 6.5 million online views. Look for Stateside shows this summer, including festival dates.
Bowing at #13 is Epic's freshly inked PoMo collective KONGOS, whose "Come With Me Now" is flying up the PoMo radio chart in its first two weeks; the track is already Top 30 and #1 Most Added, and KROQ has made it #4 most searched in L.A. They're exploding on Shazam's U.S. chart and the song's video has earned more than 400k online views. The band is bringing its powerhouse live shows (in support of full-length Lunatic) to American stages with The Airborne Toxic Event 2/7-2/18.
ZZ Ward has appeared in Vibe previously for singles "Put the Gun Down" and "365 Days." The Boardwalk/Hollywood singer/songwriter re-enters this week with "Last Love Song," which is getting major love at Triple A ahead of a forthcoming Hot AC push. Ward's Stateside dates, starting 2/28, will include two nights of Coachella. Last week saw her perform on Queen Latifah's show. Expect the lyric video very soon, while the official vid is in pre-production.
Columbia Pop duo MKTO has garnered a ton of adds at Top 40 for the buoyant "Classic," the second single from their forthcoming, self-titled debut album; the single's now #34 at the format and making a big move. With more than 200k tracks sold and nearly 7 million online video views, the pair is winning friends and influencing people at an impressive pace. An appearance on CBS' The Talk last week and upcoming national dates with Emblem3 will undoubtedly win their scores of new admirers.
In other Vibe news, A Great Big World and Bastille remain in the top two spots, while Kacey Musgraves rides a big Grammy win and performance to #3. Broken Bells also move up, as do CHVRCHES, Foster the People, HAIM and Phantogram.
