VIBE-RATERS RINGS IN THE NEW
Four Debuts and a Returning Vet Jump Aboard Our Bandwagon of Buzz

No fewer than five acts debut on this week’s Vibe-Raters roundup—although, to be fair, one is a returning act. But since this edition brings a cavalcade of fresh blood, you’ve got nothing to complain about. Apart from the fact that you’re reading about it all here.

First up, at #10, is Nettwerk’s Passenger with “Let Her Go.” The song appears on last year’s All the Little Lights album by the Brit troubadour (whose given name is Mike Rosenberg); Warner Bros. has signed on to work it and is seeing immediate love at Hot Adult. In addition to Most Added honors with major markets leading, the song will be a VH1 You Oughta Know artist next month.

Of course, it’s already been #1 in 16 countries and is platinum across the Pond. Passenger’s enjoyed 68 million YouTube views and is on a sold-out tour through September. TV has included Leno (7/12) and an upcoming Live With Kelly and Michael (9/1). Passenger is also a favorite of our own Lenny Beer, who touts it as a Grammy contender in his latest On Records.

Next comes PRMD/Island/IDJ's Avicii at #12. The Swedish EDM giant (born Tim Bergling) follows the international rampage of “Wake Me Up”—it’s been #1 in 19 countries—with a U.S. assault that’s already yielding multi-format radio love ahead of its 7/29 target (which will also see its VEVO debut). The track’s sold more than 2 million copies worldwide in its first three weeks; the DJ megastar and press darling’s current residency in Vegas will be followed by a national tour (dates are TBA). Look for a big Ralph Lauren tie-in starting in August, just ahead of the 9/17 album drop.

Columbia’s The Neighbourhood are back in the Vibe ranks at #13 as their “Sweater Weather” sits at #2 on the PoMo chart, sees huge gains at Triple A and is now crossing to Pop. They’ve been seen on Kimmel, Conan and MTV; add 4 million-plus VEVO views, a giant social-media base, a U.S. tour with Alt-rock rulers Imagine Dragons and a Lollapalooza spot, and you’ve got what marketing types call a buttload of impressions. Welcome back, dudes.

Virgin’s U.K. rockers Bastille are yet another act following overseas success with a Stateside triumph. Their “Pompeii” is Top 15 at PoMo radio, with lots of major markets erupting. The track’s video has enjoyed more than 31 million VEVO views, as well as mtvU and fuse love. They’ll win over a trove of new fans on their U.S. headlining dates surrounding their 9/3 album release.

Bowing at #16 is Chase/Republic heartthrob Austin Mahone, whose “What About Love” is getting its title question answered at Pop radio. The track is Top 20 at the format and enjoying early Hot AC love too; meanwhile, the video is lighting up MTV, MTV Hits and Teen Nick, and Austin’s a VEVO Lift artist with more than 20 million views. He’s also an Artist to Watch VMA nominee and on the road with Taylor Swift through August. His full-length is due in the fall.

As for the top of the Vibe chart? Robin Thicke grabs the top spot, Vampire Weekend climbs to #2, The Civil Wars leapfrog to #3 and Capital Cities jump to #4. Check out all the action here.
