MOST FROZEN WEEK YET!

Disney's ST Pulls Down 261k for Its Biggest #1 So Far; August Alsina Bows Strong at #2

For an 11th non-consecutive week, Disney's inescapable Frozen soundtrack hits #1 on this week's HITS Album Sales Chart. And yes, that 11th time is the charm, in that the icy musical breaks the record for an animated soundtrack previously held by The Lion King.

But much more importantly, this is Frozen's biggest week yet, with a staggering 261k (+97%).

Credit Easter, the album's placement in Starbucks stores, the inroads made by single "Let It Go" or just thousands of parents surrendering to endless noodging from their kids (or any combination of the above), but the thing continues to, er, snowball. Through the miracle of Disney imagineering, Ken Bunt is now actually jumping for joy.

The #2 spot belongs to NNTME/Def Jam's August Alsina; the hip-hop vocalist exceeded expectations with an impressive 64k chart debut, putting a spring in Steve Bartels' step.

The rest of the Top 5 is taken up with chart bows by Atlantic's NEEDTOBREATHE (48k), Warner Bros.' Jason Derulo (44k) and Cabin 24/Mom+Pop's Ingrid Michaelson, who scores a healthy 38k.

Capitol Nashville's Luke Bryan is one of many artists who got a nice bump from iTunes bargain pricing, moving up to #6 with 34k (+80%). Columbia's Pharrell sold 32k, a 10% spike and good for #7, while Lava/Republic's Lorde jumped 71% with 28k.

Now 49 (on the Now label, which ... fuck it, you know the drill) increased 36% to sell 24k and land a #9 berth, and Capitol's 5 Seconds of Summer rounds out the Top 10 with 23k (-7%).

Other sales spikes went to Columbia's John Legend (#12), up 62%, Capitol's Katy Perry (#14), who increased 76%, Kidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie), which added a very boppy 129% and is the week's greatest gainer, and Domino's Arctic Monkeys (#24), who improved 87% over the prior week.

Streeting now are Grand Hustle/Def Jam's Iggy Azalea, Epic's Future and Island's Neon Trees. The following week brings new releases from RCA's Ray LaMontagne and Bridgetone's Lindsey Stirling.
