Gilbert's got the third-highest debut of the year, exceeded only by Coldplay and Eric Church's The Outsiders, which did about 288k its maiden week.

TWO BIG DEBUTS, NO WAITING!

Coldplay, Brantley Gilbert Score Biggest and Third-Biggest Debuts of 2014, Respectively

Parlophone’s Coldplay scores the biggest debut of the year so far with 386k, which naturally gives them the #1 spot on this week’s HITS Album Sales Chart. Manager Dave Holmes will be consciously uncoupling from his diamond-encrusted recliner to do a happy dance.

Coldplay's last album, 2011's Mylo Xyloto, sold 447k first week and has moved about 1.6m RTD.

Another bow, from Valory’s Brantley Gilbert, scores #2 with 215k—which would’ve been ample for a #1 most other weeks. In fact, ol’ Brantley’s got hisself the third-highest debut of the year, exceeded only by the aforementioned Coldplay and EMI Nashville’s Eric Church, whose amped-up set The Outsiders did about 288k its maiden week.

Epic’s Michael Jackson (67k, -58%), Disney’s Frozen ST (65k, -9%) and Warner Bros.’ The Black Keys (55k, -66%) round out the Top 5.

Now 50 (on the Now label, a UMG-Sony JV that’s also part of the UMe universe, as we like to tell you every goddamn week) holds #6 ahead of two more debuts, from 19/Interscope’s Phillip Phillips (42k) and Atlantic’s The Fault in Our Stars ST (34k). Big Machine’s Rascal Flatts (22k, -65%) and Def Jam’s ascending Iggy Azalea (22k, +44% on the wings of an iTunes discount, her exploding single and her Ariana guest spot) complete the Top 10.

The week’s greatest gainer is Mosley/Interscope’s OneRepublic, which jumps #34-14 and up 93% thanks to iTunes sale pricing and TV exposure for Ryan Tedder and company’s new single.

Streeting this week are Republic’s Austin Mahone, Def Jam’s Mariah Carey and Epic’s Cher Lloyd, among others. The following week brings RCA Nashville’s Miranda Lambert, G Unit/Caroline’s 50 Cent and Hollywood’s Lucy Hale.

Turning to sports news, if someone throws a no-hitter and there’s nobody to see it, is it a no-no-hitter?
