VIBE RATERS DEBUTS: BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE LETTER "P"

Passion Pit, Phillip Phillips Bring PoMo and Pop Momentum, Alliteration to the Table
Two acts make their debut in Vibe Raters this week: Columbia's Passion Pit (at #9) and 19/Interscope singer-songwriter Phillip Phillips (at #13).

In case you didn't catch Passion Pit's superb SNL appearance and/or don't already have the ridiculously catchy keyboard riff from "Take a Walk" stuck in your head, here's a little rundown.

Gossamer, the Massachusetts foursome's sophomore release, streeted in July. But the band's profile has ballooned of late, thanks to the SNL perf and Taco Bell TV ads. "Walk" is striding toward Top 5 PoMo, with love from KYSR, KROQ, KDGE, WWDC, WBOS, CIMX, KNDD and other stations, and earning AAA loyalty from WXRT and WXRV. The track has also earned 2 million online views and such high-profile syncs as Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Frankenweenie and President Obama's 100 Days Campaign. Passion Pit's sold-out tour continues through November, with a headline MSG date just announced for 2/8.

American Idol season 11 champ Phillips, meanwhile, is making big noise at Top 40 and Hot Adult with the lovely "Home," winning the love of SXM Pulse, Spectrum, WHTZ, WPLJ, WWFS, KBIG, WMTX and KLLC, to mention but a few. The telegenic troubadour has also enjoyed 4 million VEVO views; look for more good optics on Letterman soon and on The View and GMA the week of his album The World From the Side of the Moon's 11/19 bow. Oh, and he'll be singing a little song called "The Star-Spangled Banner" at game on of the World Series on 10/24, thank you very much.
