Columbia’s Beyoncé, who never resembled Santa Claus more than in the past few weeks, snags #2 with 130k for her self-titled “visual album” blockbuster, which hurtles toward 1.5m sold since its end-of-year sneak attack.

SNOW DAY!

Disney’s Frozen ST Tops HITS Album Sales Chart; Beyoncé at #2

With the polar vortex gripping much of the nation like an icy fist, it seems appropriate that the first HITS Album Sales Chart of 2014 is topped by Disney’s Frozen soundtrack.

The Mouse’s animated winter wonder has done boffo box office, powering the soundtrack (featuring Demi Lovato, Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gadd, among others) to ever greater heights; it hits #1 with 165k, surging massively in its sixth week. Ken Bunt and team are joyfully frolicking in the snowy streets of Burbank as we speak.

Columbia’s Beyoncé, who never resembled Santa Claus more than in the past few weeks, snags #2 with 130k for her self-titled "visual album" blockbuster, which hurtles toward 1.5m sold since its end-of-year sneak attack. She’s followed in the Top 5 by Capitol’s Katy Perry (#3, 51k), Shady/Aftermath/Interscope’s Eminem (#4, 51k) and Lava/Republic’s Lorde (#5, 46k).

SYCO/Columbia’s One Direction (45k), Capitol Nashville’s Luke Bryan (43k), UMe's Now 48 (34k), Mosley/Interscope’s OneRepublic (33k) and KidinaKorner/Interscope’s Imagine Dragons (32k) round out the Top 10.

Check out the rest of the chart here. Several of the above titles got a boost from special iTunes holiday pricing ($6.99-$7.99), which ran through the first few days of 2014.

Streeting today are RCA’s Kid Ink and Republic’s John Newman. The following week brings us new Bruce Springsteen (Columbia), Razor & Tie's Kidz Bop Kids, Epic’s The Fray, Columbia’s Broken Bells and Mercury Nashville’s Jennifer Nettles. 1/21 will see the full-length bow from Black Magnetic/Epic’s A Great Big World.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ve got to get back to creating a vortex of our own—as soon as this GPen powers back up. Brand new year, same old us.
