Jack White's Lazaretto Stomps to #1 on the HITS Album Sales Chart
Long live rock.

Lazaretto, the critically acclaimed, amped-up new set from Third Man/Columbia’s Jack White, tops the HITS Album Sales Chart this week with nearly 129k.

White’s sales were apparently goosed by some of the strongest vinyl sales of the modern era. This is nearly on par with his 2012 album, Blunderbuss, which bowed with 138k and has sold 553k RTD.

White’s is the only debut in the Top 10. Last week’s champ, RCA Nashville’s Miranda Lambert, slips to #2 with 62k (-65%). Disney’s Frozen takes #3 with 47k (down a mere 12%); Valory’s Brantley Gilbert slips to #4 with 39k (-19%) and Atlantic’s The Fault in Our Stars ST moves up to round out the Top 5 with 34k, flat from last week.

Now 50 (on the NOW label, a joint venture between Universal and Sony that is also associated with the UMe universe, something we feel duty-bound to point out over and over and over until somebody notices) is #6 with nearly 34k (-19%). The Top 10 is completed by Parlophone’s Coldplay (#7, 32k, -27%), Nonesuch/WB’s The Black Keys (moving #13-8 with 26k, +13%), Epic’s Michael Jackson (#9, 24k, -5%) and Now Country 7 (#10, 22k, -29%).

Debuting just outside the Top 10 are Nettwerk’s Passenger (#12, 19k) and Vanguard’s O.A.R. (#13, 17k).

The chart’s greatest gainers were Nashville dudes, namely Warner Bros. Nashville’s Blake Shelton, who jumps 73% and #35-22 with 13k and EMI Nashville’s Eric Church (16k, #26-15, +44%); both also happened to benefit from $6.99 iTunes sales, to which we say both "Yee" and "haw."

But enough about this relatively sleepy week. Let’s get ready to rumble, as next week’s chart brings a showdown between Interscope’s Lana Del Rey and Capitol’s Sam Smith that’s already showing signs of tightening, as well as a debut from WB’s Linkin Park that might well have given them a #1 had they streeted on a different week.

Meanwhile, in World Cup news, Brazil and Mexico faced off for an intense nil-nil match that certainly …. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz …
