Swift earned awards for Best Female, Best Live and Best Look, while Bieber took home Best Male, Best World Stage and Best Pop.
One Direction and Carly Rae Jepsen took two honors apiece, with the former nabbing Biggest Fans and Best New, the latter earning Best Song for “Call Me Maybe” and Best Push.
Other winners included Nicki Minaj (Best Hip-Hop), David Guetta (Best Electronic), Lana Del Rey (Best Alternative), Linkin Park (Best Rock), Han Geng (Worldwide Act) and PSY’s “Gangnam Style:” (Best Video).
The Global Icon Award for timeless musical influence went to the late Whitney Housotn.
Featuring Heidi Klum as host of the ceremony and Ludacris as ringmaster, the show opened with a performance by Rita Ora, fun., and Jepsen.
Performers included Alicia Keys with a pyrotechnic-filled “Girl on Fire,” Muse, the Killers, No Doubt and Pitbull. PSY’s “Gangnam Style” dance mob drove the crowd wild, and Taylor Swift capped off the circus theme closing the show with a rousing rendition of ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.’
