EVERYTHING GOES

Ariana Grande Bows at #1 as Brad Paisley, KEM Nail Top 5 Debuts; Guardians Remains Huge

Republic’s Ariana Grande tops this week’s HITS Building Album Sales Chart as her sophomore release, My Everything, lands at #1.

The album, which bowed at 168k, was pumped up by multiple major TV looks, including MTV’s VMAs, and massive radio play and big sales for “Problem” f/Iggy Azalea, which hit #1 at both Pop and Rhythm, “Break Free” f/Zedd and “Bang Bang” by Jessie J + Ariana + Nicki Minaj. It follows her 2013 debut full-length, Yours Truly, which raked in 138k in first-week sales last year.

Speaking of debuts, Arista Nashville’s Brad Paisley appears at #2 with 53k, while Motown’s KEM is #4 with 48k. Avenged Sevenfold brings in 22k for Hopeless with a chart entrance at #9.

Hollywood’s Guardians of the Galaxy ST continues to exert its interplanetary pull, dropping down just one spot to #3 with another 48k. Capitol’s Sam Smith (#5, 30k) enjoys a 21% boost in the wake of the VMAs.

Various Artists prove their star-power with the #7 and #8 slots, as Disney’s Frozen ST brings in another 26k, down a mere 2% in its 40th week, and NOW’s Now 51 snags 25k.

In addition to Smith, Columbia’s Beyoncé, who re-entered at #13 with 15k for 2013’s sneak-attack album, and Grand Hustle/Def Jam’s Iggy Azalea (#14, 14.6k, +23%) see noteworthy bumps powered by their respective performances at the VMAs.
