TUESDAY CHART REVIEW

What Just Happened at Three Key Mediabase Radio Formats

It's been one of those days, am I right? Just relentless. Thank goodness for the cough syrup. Anyhoo, let's take a gander at what's going on at three key radio formats, courtesy of our pals at Mediabase.

TOP 40
RCA
has the two Most Added songs this week at Top 40. Miley Cyrus’ new hit, “Wrecking Ball,” picks up 73 new adds and now is on over 100 stations, while Britney Spears debuted yesterday and picked up 58 stations on “Work Bitch,” including Z100 N.Y. and KIIS L.A. Cher Lloyd came out of the box strong for Epic with “I Wish” featuring T.I. Capitol had a nice week with Midnight Red’s “Take Me Home.” We also saw strong follow-up weeks for YM/CM/Republic’s Drake, WB’s Tegan & Sara and RCA’s P!nk. Republic’s new entry, John Newman, showed promise with “Love Me Again.”

ALTERNATIVE
It was a historic day for Arcade Fire, who had the #1 Most Added song at Modern Rock for the first time with “Reflektor” on Merge. In its first full week of going for adds, the Grammy-winning band picked up 30 new stations. Republic’s Coldplay had another impressive showing with “Atlas,” which is now on close to 40 stations. WB’s Linkin Park debuted “A Light That Never Comes” yesterday and picked up 10 new stations. The multi-format smash “Wake Me Up” from Avicii (PRMD/Island/IDJ) broke through this week. And it was a good day for follow-ups, as we saw The Neighbourhood (Columbia) and XL’s Vampire Weekend perform well.

RHYTHMIC
Ariana Grande f/Big Sean
“Right There” (Republic) and Miley Cyrus' “Wrecking Ball” (RCA) have solid weeks, and are among the Most Added. Lorde’s “Royals” (Lava/Republic), Rich Homie Quan’s “Type Of Way” (Def Jam/IDJ), Britney Spears’ “Work Bitch” (RCA) and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “White Walls” (Macklemore) all continue to gather new believers. Look for huge spin increases from Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home” (YM/CM/Republic), Lorde, Ariana Grande, and Sage The Gemini’s “Gas Pedal (Empire/Republic).
