Rock Your Body at a Steady 130 BPM and Put Your Hands Up in the Air—Preferably With a
15-Pound Weight in Each One
The list below reflects more than 70k votes placed last year on
RunHundred.com, whose
Chris Lawhorn kindly supplies us with the site’s monthly Top 10s. According to the poll, the most popular acts in the gym last year were
David Guetta and
Pitbull, each of whom appears twice, albeit in tandem with ringers
Christina Aguilera,
Ke$ha,
Rihanna,
Akon and
Ne-Yo.
Chart hits from
Flo Rida and
Jason Derulo made the Top 10 in their original forms, while those from
Avicii and
Gaga got beat out by their own remixes. Some of the biggest records of 2013 didn't make the cut—including
Katy Perry's "Roar,"
Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines,"
Imagine Dragons’ "Radioactive" and
Lorde’s "Royals." Conversely, several tracks below got more love in the gym than on the radio—like
Fergie,
Q-Tip and
GoonRock's contribution to
The Great Gatsby.
On the whole, Chris offers, there are probably a few songs here you loved, a few you missed and a few that have been given a makeover since you last heard them. Click on any of the track names below to refresh your memory and/or download it from
iTunes or
Amazon MP3.

But our Top 10 of 2013, had it been compiled, would look somewhat different.
Capital Cities' "Safe and Sound,"
HAIM’s "The Wire" and
Daft Punk’s "Get Lucky" would definitely be on it, and we regularly spun (spinned?) to several other tracks from both
Days Gone By and
Random Access Memories.
Atlas Genius’
When It Was Now and
Kings of Leon’s
Mechanical Bull yielded three or four gym faves apiece, and
Tegan and Sara’s "Closer" still gets played with some frequency more than a year after it first appeared.
Jagwar Ma’s "Come Save Me" and Broken Bells’ "Holding On for Life" are among the recent contenders. But that’s just us. Now, get back to the weight room—and don’t forget to hydrate.
