NEW IN VIBE: NEW YEAR'S NEWCOMERS

Our First 2013 Installment Welcomes Imagine Dragons, Alabama Shakes, Miguel and Tame Impala
You say you've been feeling listless, anxious, filled with longing? Sounds like you've been jonesing for a fresh dose of Vibe-Raters, my friend. And we've got an extra-potent shot for you in this, our first outing of 2013--no fewer than FOUR buzzing acts join the Vibe ranks.

Fire-breathing their way into the #3 spot are Interscope's PoMo hitters Imagine Dragons, whose album, Night Visions, streeted in September but has been exploding at retail since the holidays. Single "It's Time/Radioactive," meanwhile, is setting off geiger counters at Pop and Hot Adult, including Sirius XM/Hits 1 and Pulse, WHTZ, WWFS, KBIG, KIIS, WTMX, KLLC and many more, and has PoMo Top 5 in its sights. The band kicks off a six-week, sold-out headlining tour 2/28 with Atlas Genius and taking Conan by storm 1/9.

Fans of soulful rock can't help but be cheered by the rise of ATO's Alabama Shakes. The critical darlings--fronted by powerhouse frontwoman Brittany Howard--capped off a great year by scoring three Grammy nods, including Best New Artist, and their "Hold On" is getting a second (much bigger) bite at the PoMo apple, led by big love from KROQ, KKDO, Live 105 and Sirius XM Alt Nation; it should begin its assault on Hot Adult 1/21. The song's YouTube clip has won over 4m views, and Rolling Stone dubbed "Hold On" its #1 Song of the Year for 2012. Another track, "Hang Loose," is #1 Most Added at Triple A. The band kills live, and their sold-out U.S. trek 3/1-3/16 is sure to cause more swooning. You will also find them rocking the 2/8 MusiCares Springsteen pre-Grammy event. And they will rock you. And your face.

You say you're in the mood for something slinky, sensual and smokin'? Awwww, baby, wrap those ears around Bystorm/RCA's Grammy magnet Miguel, whose "Adorn" is a Song of the Year contender (and that's just 20% of his nomination haul). The inventive R&B track hit #1 at Xover, Urban and Urban AC and is now crossing to Pop bigtime, with heavy breathing at KAMP, KIIS, WKSC, KMVQ, WDZH, WKQI and more. New single "Do You ... " is getting Xover and Urban all hot and bothered, with love spreading at SiriusXM The Heat, WQHT, WWPR, WGCI, KMEL, WKYS, WPHI, WUSL and more. MTV, MTV Hits, VH1 and BET’s 106 & Park are feeling the heat too. Miguel's on tour in Europe now and joins Alicia Keys on the road come Spring.

What's that bounding into the #12 spot? Why, it's Modular Recordings' Tame Impala. The Aussie psych-rockers are already critical darlings, and their sophomore set, Lonerism, is rounding up more rapturous reviews. In fact, the disc was named 2012's Album of the Year by NME, Filter and Urban Outfitters, and it hit #2 in Pitchfork's Readers Poll and #4 in its Best Albums round-up. With the official PoMo impact still to come, WWCD leads early believers. The fall will find the band on a huge, sold-out tour; they'll roam the U.S. 2/19-3/12, and those dates are selling out now. Catch them on Jimmy Fallon 2/18.
