YOUR RADIO RECAP

A Quick Look at the Adds at Three Key Radio Formats, Followed by a Tall Glass of Scotch

Well, we’ve swept up all the confetti and soaked up all the leftover booze, so we’ll say Happy New Year one last time and get right to our first radio add recap of 2014. Remember that resolution we made to live a more meaningful life and be more present in the moment? Yeah, that ship has already sailed. On to the chart action!

TOP 40
The first Tuesday back from the holiday break is like herding cats—things are a bit unpredictable. The Top 10 Most Added are a mix of new product and panel closeouts. Columbia starts the year in fine fashion with the #1 Most Added song of the week, Beyonce’s "XO." Capitol ended 2013 with Katy Perry’s "Dark Horse" in the top slot and picks right up in 2014 with a #3 finish; CMG also closes out Bastille’s "Pompeii." Warner Bros. delivers out of the box on Jason Derulo f/2 Chainz’s "Talk Dirty." Meanwhile, Republic is off to a great start with Martin Garrix’s "Animals" and closes the panel on Lorde’s "Team." RCA grabs #2 Most Added for the week with Miley Cyrus’s "Adore You" and Hollywood delivers once again for Demi Lovato’s "Neon Nights."

RHYTHMIC
What a great way to start 2014 for Columbia’s Beyoncé! She has the #1 Most Added record with "Drunk in Love" as well as the #3 most reported with "XO." Sandwiched between Queen Bey’s singles was "Talk Dirty" from Warner Bros.Jason Derulo. Chris Brown’s "Loyal" (RCA), Katy Perry’s "Dark Horse" (Capitol), Mack Wilds’ "Own It" (Louder Than Life/RAL) and YG "My Hitta" (CTE/Def Jam/IDJ) all enjoyed double-digit adds. The chart is still in disarray with all the countdowns, but by the time next week’s chart rolls around we’ll see who survived the holidays.

ALTERNATIVE
Silversun Pickups return with "Cannibal," a brand new single from their forthcoming greatest hits album which is the Most Added song of the new year. Republic’s Phantogram had a breakout week with "Fall in Love," with KROQ, KYSR, KRBZ and many others jumping in. Merge’s Arcade Fire comes back strong with "Afterlife." It’s also been a nice week of closeout adds for The Airborne Toxic Event (Island/IDJ), Columbia’s Broken Bells and RCA’s New Politics. WRFF adds "Come With Me Now" from indie kids Kongos. We also saw some new action on strong follow-ups from Virgin’s Bastille with "Bad Blood" and Tame Impala’s "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" (Modular/Interscope).

OK, who's drinking? Other than us, we mean.
