What to Expect at Three Key Mediabase Formats

The forthcoming HITS 28th Anniversary Issue (landing with a mighty splat on your desk soon) is all about superheroes. Our particular superpower, apart from sucking? We can see the future. No, we can't help you in Vegas. But we can give you an idea of what to expect from three key Mediabase formats next week.

TOP 40

The females have clearly taken charge. Charli XCX’s "Boom Clap" stays atop the chart this week, while the rest of the Top 10 is swiftly changing. "All About That Bass," by Epic's Meghan Trainor, has a 2000+ spin week and snags Greatest Gainer honors, and "Break Free," by Republic's Ariana Grande f/Zedd, enjoys a 1000+ spin week, as both will move inside the Top 5. The next two 1000+ spikes belong to Taylor Swift’s "Shake It Off" (Big Machine/Republic) and Iggy Azalea f/Rita Ora’s "Black Widow" (Grand Hustle/Def Jam). Def Jam's Jeremih also had a 1000+ spin week and should move to the mid-teens with "Dont Tell ‘Em" f/YG. Meanwhile, Glassnote's Childish Gambino should chart this week with “3005,” and the same can be said for Capitol's Mary Lambert and her single "Secrets."

RHYTHM

Def Jam's Jeremih keeps an iron grip on the #1 spot with "Don't Tell 'Em," which means T.I. f/Iggy Azalea’s "No Mediocre" (Grand Hustle/Columbia), Iggy Azalea f/Rita Ora’s "Black Widow" (Grand Hustle/Def Jam), Nicki Minaj’s "Anaconda" (YMCMB/Republic) and Chris Brown f/Usher & Rick Ross’ "New Flame" (RCA) will move up--but are a few weeks from challenging for the top. "0-100" by Republic's Drake and "Bend Ova" by Epic's Lil Jon have great increases. Epic's Meghan Trainor should also see big increases on "All About That Bass," along with Columbia's Beyoncé and her "Flawless." Look for Warner Bros.' Jason Derulo to debut his smash track, "Trumpets," this week.

ALTERNATIVE

Vance Joy's "Riptide" should remain #1 for another week, but Republic's Milky Chance is now extremely close to the top spot with "Stolen Dance." In a light week of spin gains, Nonesuch/Warner Bros.Black Keys will be the Greatest Gainer with their new single, "Gotta Get Away," which should climb to #20. Matador’s Interpol will crack the Top 25 with "All the Rage Back Home." Prospect Park's Knox Hamilton will debut on the chart with "Work It Out," as will Echosmith's "Cool Kids" (Warner Bros.). Meanwhile, next week will bring new music from a couple of biggies: Fall Out Boy and BUSH.
