HEY, BUDDY! IT'S THE
FRIDAY CHART PREVIEW

In Which We Tell You to Expect on Next Week's Chart at Three Key Mediabase Radio Formats

Heyyyyy, buddy! How the hell are ya? When’d ya get in? Where ya stayin’? Uh-huh. That so? Really? We should have drinks soon! Can’t be this week, though.

Anyway, let’s have a look at what to expect on three key Mediabase radio charts next week. Lorde keeps making noise at multiple formats—vying to succeed Katy in the #1 spot at Pop, shooting upward at Rhythmic and following up the record-breaking “Royals” at Alternative with the impressive “Team.” Other solo females making moves: Gaga, Miley, Britney, Selena and Rihanna. And keep your eye on Justin’s latest. Bastille, MS MR and Thirty Seconds to Mars are among the bands cranking it at Alt. That’s just an ice-breaker—read on.

TOP 40
Katy Perry
(Capitol) still enjoys a 1500+ spin lead with her #1 hit “Roar,” but we now see “Wake Me Up” by PRMD/Virgin/IDJ’s Avicii and Lorde’s “Royals” (Republic) closing fast. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few weeks. Lady Gaga (Interscope), Drake (YM/CM/Republic) and Miley Cyrus (RCA) are now firmly entrenched in the top 10. Hollywood’s Selena Gomez continues to grow with her latest hit, “Slow Down,” which will make a nice 15-12 move. Britney Spears’ “Work Bitch” (RCA) is also having a really nice week; the EDM-infused track is up close to 1000x and will quickly move to #17. After a solid debut, RCA’s Justin Timberlake will make a big 33-24 jump with “TKO.”

RHYTHMIC
Drake
’s “Hold On” (YM/CM/Republic) remains at #1 this week, and Big Sean’s “Beware” (G.O.O.D./Def Jam/IDJ) jumps into the Top 5. Lorde’s “Royals” (Lava/Republic) continues to roll, leaping into the Top 10. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “White Walls” (Macklemore), Ariana Grande “Right There” (Republic) and August Alsina (Def Jam/IDJ) all post very healthy spin increases. Future’s “Honest” (A1/Freebandz/Epic) and Justin Timberlake’s “TKO” (RCA) vault into the Top 25, and Rihanna’s “What Now” (Def Jam/IDJ), DJ Khaled’s “I Wanna Be With You” (Republic) and Jason Derulo’s “Marry Me” (Warner Bros.) all look to debut.

ALTERNATIVE
Virgin’s Bastille will move to #2 on Monday with their debut hit, “Pompeii”; the band now looks poised to take the Top spot the following week. Thirty Seconds to Mars (Virgin) is moments away from the Top 10, and could get there Monday morning with “City Of Angels.” “Hurricane” by Columbia’s MS MR is gathering force; it’s up over 100x and bearing down on the Top 10. Meanwhile, we’ve seen sizable spin gains for Linkin Park, Pearl Jam and Arcade Fire. Lorde’s latest, “Team” (Lava/Republic), will explode onto the chart at #32. After a Top 15 album bow, Glassnote’s Chvrches will make their Alt-radio chart debut with “The Mother We Share.”
