WALKER HAYES SURPRISE REISSUES SPEAK VOLUMES
3/16/18

In a surprise move, Walker Hayes has just digitally re-released the 16 tracks comprising 2016’s 8Tracks Vol. 1 & 2 as a reward to those fans who’ve supported his unorthodox path to success.

8Tracks Vol. 1 & 2 consist of 16 self-produced work tapes cut by the unsigned Hayes in his Music Row studio, which he dubbed The Shack, which he gave away for free during the summer of 2016. This unconventional move—a shot in the dark, essentially—caught the ears of tastemakers and other early supporters, as the initial batch won over thousands of new fans.

iHeart Radio’s Bobby Bones got on board early, focusing on the track “Shades,” which Bones tapped as his “song of the summer.” Hayes released the second set of 8Tracks that August, and by January 2017, Hayes signed with Sony’s Monument Records as one of the revived label’s flagship artists.

“I’ve been so fortunate to get to do things in a unique way this time around,” says Hayes. “My team has let me take risks and create music that is authentic to me—even though it might not sound like anything else. Today, we’re putting out the music that got me here. I’ll never forget the way fans’ reactions made me feel when I first put these 8Tracks out. They are homemade, and they are the foundation of who I am. This is my way of saying thanks for everyone’s support. I hope old fans are excited to hear them again, and I hope new fans love them just as much.”

The re-release comes on the heels of Hayes’ first Top 10 single “You Broke Up With Me,” from his Monument debut album, boom, which has notched nearly 400k in sales and 105m streams.

On the heels of his own Good as Gold club tour, Hayes hit the road as part of Kelsea Ballerini’s Unapologetically Tour. He made his London debut last week with a performance at the O2 Arena as part of C2C, then headed back to the states to play SXSW.
