CROSSOVER
The theme for the last few weeks on the chart has been “the big get bigger.” Eight records had an increase of over 400 spins—that’s 20% of the chart—and of those, six were inside the Top 15. That tells me these records have fast-tracked themselves to sub-powers and powers. That can be great for research and M scores, but what about the new music? Hopefully, the records on the bottom half of the chart will grow to be as strong as some of these current hits… For the third week in a row, the #1 record in the land remains RCA’s Chris Brown f/Lil Wayne with “Loyal.” John Strazza, Inca and Lori G also debut Shakira f/Rihanna’s “Can’t Remember to Forget You” at #39. Meanwhile, they’re setting up Tinashe’s “2 On,” which features Schoolboy Q. It’s already had some early action on both coasts and is set to impact 3/17… As I write this, Beyoncé f/Jay Z’s “Drunk in Love” is the new #1 record (in looking at the building chart). It will have taken her only nine weeks on the chart to get there, which is a pretty quick ascent. Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White balanced taking this to the top with maintaining the success of J Cole’s “She Knows,” which is at #11, Pharrell Williams’ “Happy,” the #1 most increased record of the week with an astounding 991-spin jump and #24-13 leap, John Legend’s “All of Me” going #22-19 with a 275-spin jump, Calvin Harris f/Ayah Marar’s “Thinking About You” moving #30-28, and DJ Snake & Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What,” which is at #29, up 188 spins. Now, they’re gearing up for the impact of both Beyoncé’s “Partition” and DJ Cassidy f/Robin Thicke & Jessie J’s “Calling All Hearts” in the next few weeks… Gary Spangler and Davey Dee at Republic continue to churn out the hits as well. They have Drake’s “The Language” at #9, Lorde’s “Team” entering the Top 10 and increasing over 500 spins, SoMo’s “Ride” at #12, Drake’s “All Me” at #16 and Sage the Gemini’s “Red Nose” climbing to #18, with an increase of 261 spins. They’re impacting Martin Garrix’s “Animals” next week… The crew of Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness at IDJ are gearing up for a busy next month. They currently have YG f/Jeezy & Rich Homie Quan’s “My Hitta” enjoying a spot in the Top 5 and still gaining over 275 spins a week, Jay Z f/Beyoncé’s “Part II (On the Run)” climbing #38-31 and gaining 256 spins and Jhene Aiko’s “The Worst” sitting at #33, increasing 150 spins. They’re gearing up for Ludacris f/Wiz Khalifa, Jeremih & Cashmere Cat’s “Party Girls” and Afrojack f/ Wrabel’s “Ten Feet Tall.” Both are impacting in the next few weeks. There’s also YG’s follow-up, “Who Do You Love,” which features Drake and is already climbing the Urban chart… Jason Derulo f/2 Chainz’ “Talk Dirty” (Warner Bros.), continues to build like a hit record. Lee L’Heureux has this leaping into the Top 10 this week, adding nearly 600 spins… Rachael Spangler and Epic continue to build Kat Dhalia’s “Crazy.” It’s sitting just outside the chart and was up a very healthy 137 spins. The next record for Epic is Kes on 3/10.
