CROSSOVER
I had the opportunity to go to WRDW Philly’s radio show on Friday evening. The lineup was less traditional than those of some other summer shows; it featured G-Eazy, an up-and-coming rapper on RCA, as well as Vice, Diplo, Iggy Azalea and headliner Calvin Harris. The 8k venue sold out two weeks before the show. Judging by the number of ticket scalpers, kids without tickets and general buzz, I truly believe they could have done 11k no problem. PD Buster Satterfield and MD Mijo did something not many stations are willing to do these days. They grew the artists and songs over the last 6-9 months, rather than paying for the typical “summer jam” artists. It worked like a dream. Every artist, from the opener to Harris, was embraced. WRDW was able to make it feel like a hometown concert, and I haven’t seen a show with that much energy in the crowd in a long time. Congrats to the entire WRDW staff for building a show from the bottom up and being so successful! Continuing the trend, we have yet another #1 record… Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness are the proud owners of Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” the #1 record in the land. It was up nearly 500 spins, and shows no signs of slowing down. Def Jam also has YG f/Drake’s “Who Do You Love” at #9, up over 300 spins, along with August Alsina’s “Numb” at #27 and Jeremih f/YG’s “Don’t Tell Em,” which will chart in two weeks… RCA’s John Strazza, Inca, and Lori G are making waves, as they have Justin Timberlake’s “Not a Bad Thing” up to #6 this week. They’ve also got Tinashe f/ScHoolboy Q’s “2 On” at #11 and up over 540 spins, Kid Ink f/Chris Brown’s “Main Chick” at #13, up over 300 spins, and Usher’s “Good Kisser” moving #19-16, with an increase of 430 spins. All four will be in the Top 15 next week. Magic!’s “Rude” is at #31 and up nearly 200 spins. Also, look for Becky G’s “Shower” to debut in the next few weeks… Gary Spangler and Davey Dee have the Most Increased record again this week with Ariana Grande f/Iggy Azalea’s “Problem.” It was up over 1,040 spins and moves #9-5. This record’s definitely looking like the next #1. Republic also has Lil Wayne f/Drake’s “Believe Me” at #19 and Adrian Marcel’s “2AM” at #24. They also have the biggest debut of the week with Nicki Minaj’s “Pills N Potions.” It comes in at #30 this week, gaining over 650 spins. Finally, they have Sage the Gemini’s “College Drop” at #32, and are looking to chart DJ Khaled’s “They Don’t Love You No More” in two weeks… Ayelet Schiffman and James White at Columbia have Calvin Harris’ “Summer” at #21, up over 260 spins from last week. Make sure you check out the “Club Killers” mix. It adds even more rhythm sensibility to the track. Pharrell Williams’ “Come Get It Bae” is also moving quickly, leaping #37-28 this week, gaining nearly 600 spins. They’re building Rita Ora’s “I Will Never Let You Down,” and will impact Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts” on Monday… Glassnote is the little engine that could, as they continue to take Childish Gambino’s “3005” higher and higher. It moves to #15 this week, up over 220 spins. They’re look to take this Top 10, with only a handful of holdouts left… Lee L’Heureux at Warner Bros. has two of the top-selling and Shazam-ing records in the U.S., Jason Derulo f/Snoop Dogg’s “Wiggle” and Nico & Vinz’s “Am I Wrong.” Derulo moves #17-12 and was up over 600 spins, while Nico & Vinz debuts at #36 and gains almost 200 spins… Sujit Kundu and Epic continue to grow Future’s “Move That Doh,” which went #1 at Urban this week, and sits at #17 and up 210 spins at Rhythm. They also have Kat Dahlia’s “Crazy” at #25 and TeeFlii’s “24 Hours” debuting at #34 this week. They’re looking to debut Yo Gotti’s “I Know” in the next two weeks.
