The Valory Music Co./BMLG's Delta Rae tore it up at L.A.'s Troubadour on 7/26, which was clearly a personal milestone—one of the Durham, NC-based sextet's songs mentions the legendary club as part of a West Coast reverie. Still, "I moved down south, where they still play rock 'n' roll" (from "I Moved South") more precisely encapsulates the upbeat, melodic energy of the band's attack, which at times suggests a Nashville-inflected Fleetwood Mac. The harmonies of frontwomen Liz Hopkins and Brittany Holljes with Holljes brothers Eric (on piano) and Ian (on guitar) are simply incandescent, and take the band's sonic presentation to dizzying heights—whether soaring over their pop-rock grooves or glowing amid the quieter moments.
