FLEMING UPPED AT UMG U.K.
6/3/16

UMG U.K. International Marketing Director Rob Fleming has been promoted to SVP International Marketing, reporting to the company’s recently appointed EVP/Head of International Brian Celler.

Fleming has been a linchpin of Universal’s international team for more than 10 years, playing a key role in the global campaigns for multi-million selling artists including U2, Amy Winehouse, Metallica, Amy Macdonald, Black Sabbath, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.

He was named International Marketing Director in 2011, and, since then, has helped steer the global breakthroughs of Ellie Goulding, Bastille, Florence + the Machine, Mumford & Sons and Years and Years. Celler and Fleming have worked closely for the past seven years, thanks to their shared association with U2.

Said Celler: “I have known Rob a lifetime, and there is a long and distinguished list of artists and managers who I’m sure would join me in attesting to the leadership, creativity and experience he brings to any international campaign. Rob oversees a talented international team who are doing an outstanding job with the all the artists and bands which the U.K. labels are developing at home and globally.”.

Fleming’s first job in music was in the international department at Warner/Chappell 20 years ago. He joined PolyGram in 1991 as a Product Manager for Phonogram’s Talkin Loud label, working with Mercury Prize winner Roni Size and Nu Yorican Soul. He then became an International Marketing Manager for Phonogram artists including Ocean Colour Scene, Cocteau Twins, The Black Crowes, Metallica and Elton John, spending three years on the road with Metallica as the international PR man for the Black album tour. He left Phonogram in 1997 to become an international marketing consultant for Metallica, Slayer, Elton John and Madonna.

Fleming rekindled his association with UMG’s labels in 2005 when he joined Island Records as an international consultant for U2.
