FRIDAY RELEASES: WET WEEKEND IN BLIGHTY?
10/8/15

10/9 is not a Q4 priority date for Blighty, if new music being spawned from the fair isle tomorrow is anything to go by. Album wise, the most interesting new release is from synthpop duo Hurts, whose third album Surrender is out via Columbia.

A&R’d by Chris Briggs, Columbia boss Mark Terry is hoping for a Top 10 entry, as well as sales that exceed the life-to-date of their last album, Exile, which currently stands at 35k in the U.K. Surrender has been recorded with help from Swedish producer Jonas Quant, legendary U.S. name Ariel Rechtshaid and Grammy-winning producer Stuart Price.

Marketing for Surrender so far has included the release of instant grat track "Slow" in early September and the announcement of 2016 European tour dates. 20 shows in February and March will see the band perform their biggest tour to date, bringing them to London's Brixton Academy and Helsinki's Hartwall Arena. “Some Kind of Heaven" and “Lights” are the first official releases from the new LP, the latter of which has had 285 plays across all U.K. radio this last week.

Elsewhere, rock band The Enemy are back with fourth album It's Automatic. Out via a distribution deal with Warner's ADA and their management’s own VAM Records, co-manager John Dawkins of Various Artists Management has modest hopes for another Top 10, joining the band's previous three, which charted at #9, #2 and #1 respectively. "So Much Love" was released last week to little fanfare, while the lyric video for “Don’t Get Nothing In The Way” was revealed in July. Rupert Murdoch’s widely-read tabloid, The Sun, got the exclusive stream for seven of the album’s tracks on Monday. This week, the band has been visiting HMV for signings and performances, as well as promoting their Pledge Music pre-order campaign.

Veteran Welsh singer Tom Jones (who’s recently come under fire for saying his long-suffering wife has “lost her spark”), is back with a new catalogue album Long Lost Suitcase, out via Virgin EMI. It’s the third in a trilogy of albums, following 2010’s Praise & Blame (#2) and 2012's Spirit In The Room (#8). Produced by Ethan Johns, the tracks are made up of performances of cover from Jones alongside a select group of players; it's designed to soundtrack his autobiography Over The Top And Back, which is out on the same day. Has Jones lost his spark? We wait with baited breath.

Other names of note include ex-Smiths man Johnny Marr with his third solo LP via Warner, Adrenalin Baby, which is made up of his live recordings over the past three years. There's also a best-of Faithless album, 2.0, from Sony. Featuring 2 CDs and a remix package, names including Avicii, Tiesto, Eric Prydz and Booka Shade have stepped in to rework the tracks. Promo will include major TV appearances, live shows and a press and digital campaign backed by TV and outdoor advertising. And lastly, the first signing to Ed Sheeran's Gingerbread Man label, Jamie Lawson, will debut his self-titled record tomorrow.
